:—Arist.HA617b16 distinguishes three species, κορακίας, λύκος, βωμολόχος (qq.v.): he also mentions a web-footed κολοιός, found in Lydia and Phrygia, which is prob. the little cormorant, Phalacrocorax pygmaeus; cf. Ath.9.395e (citing Ar.Ach.875):—Proverbs: κολοιὸς ποτὶ κολοιόν 'birds of a feather flock together', Arist.EN1155a34, etc.; κολοιὸς ἀλλοτρίοις πτεροῖς ἀγάλλεται 'borrowed plumes', Luc.Apol.4; κύκνον ἡγοῦ τὸν κ.
